Louisiana State Requirements for CNAs

Candidates must undergo classes at a nurse aide competency evaluation program. This consists of at least 80 hours of classes at a state-approved program, with a combination of 40 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of practical experience.

Upon completion, candidates must pass the certified nurse aide test. Once the Louisiana state nurse aide test has been passed, candidates will apply to be listed with the Louisiana Registry System (LARS)

Louisiana CNA Exam Details

The NNAP Examination is 60 questions for the written version, with 90 minutes to complete. Additionally, there is a required skills examination that covers 5 selected skills that the candidate must successfully demonstrate. Skills that are tested may include

  • Hand Hygiene
  • Applies one knee-high elastic stocking
  • Cleans upper or lower denture
  • Counts and records aerial pulse
  • Counts and records respirations
  • Feeds client who cannot feed self
