Pennsylvania State Requirements for CNAs
The state of Pennsylvania requires 80 hours of classes, of which 37.5 hours must be hands-on learning in a clinical setting. Classes must occur in state-approved programs. Once coursework is completed, candidates will then be eligible to take the NNAP exam. Additionally, candidates that are listed on other state registries are eligible to take the test without completing a program in Pennsylvania, as are those that have lapsed CNA certification as they have not worked in 24 months may be eligible to take the exam.
Pennsylvania CNA Exam Details
The Pennsylvania Nursing Assistant Test is administered by Credentia and is the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination. The test consists of two sections – written and skills. Both sections are taken in the same day. The written section of the exam is 70 questions. The knowledge section consists of the proper demonstration of 5 skills. In addition to hygiene and hand washing, skills will be possibly selected from the areas of assists with use of bedpan, recording radial pulse, applies one knee-high stocking, cleans upper or lower denture and other skills.
