About the TEAS 6 Reading test
The current version of the test is the TEAS 6, which was updated in 2016 from the previous TEAS 5 version. With updates to the sixth version of the test, you will now have 64 minutes to complete the TEAS reading test, which is comprised of 53 questions. This means that you have a maximum of one minute and twelve seconds to answer each question.
Questions on the TEAS reading test section are categorized as three different types, which we will cover in greater detail:
- Key Ideas and Details
- Integration of Knowledge and Ideas
- Craft and Structure
Key Ideas and Details
This identifies ones ability to recognize pattern sequences in words, picking out useful details in a sentence or paragraph and drawing conclusions from those details. Most questions from the TEAS reading subtest are made up of these questions, with 22 out of the 53 making up Key Ideas and Details questions.
Integration of Knowledge and Ideas
11 questions from the TEAS 6 reading test are made up of Integration of Knowledge and Ideas questions. These test questions relate to drawing information from sources and evidence in written text. You may be asked to distinguish differences between primary and secondary source material, identify differences or similarities between two written texts, and assert what information from a source is reliable.
Craft and Structure
Craft and structure questions involve one’s ability to read a written paragraph and make logical conclusions from that information. You may be asked to identify a person’s opinion on a topic, understand the meaning of a word when used in a particular manner, and distinguish objective and subjective statements. 14 of the reading test’s questions will be made up of craft and structure questions.
