Connecticut State Requirements for CNAs
In Connecticut, CNAs must complete 100 hours of their nurse program with a Registered Nurse that has 2 years of experience. Additionally, 16 hours of the following modules must be completed in order to start having direct patient contact:
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Residents Rights
- Residents Independence
- Safety and Emergency Procedures including the Heimlich Maneuver, and
- Infection Control.
Those that are not New Nurse Aide Candidates may also follow alternate paths for eligibility for taking the CNA exam. They include:
- Current nurse or student nurse
- Out of state nurse aide
- Lapsed certification of nurse aide
Those that fall into the following categories may bypass the CNA exam and complete a Nurse Aide Registry Application:
- Completed Nurse Aide Training and the Exam within the last 2 years
- Currently have a place on another official state registry
Connecticut CNA Exam Details
In the state of Connecticut, the CNA exam consists of two sections, a knowledge exam and a clinical skills exam. The written exam is 60 questions that must be completed in 90 minutes. As a part of the clinical exam, candidates will be tested on hand washing protocol, and then a variety of other clinical skills, such as dressing, bedpan assistance, ambulating a resident, mouth care, foot care and others.
