South Carolina State Requirements for CNAs

New nurse aide candidates must go through a minimum of 100 hours of classes at a state approved program. Within these 100 hours, 40 hours of classes must be conducted in a clinical setting. Candidates may be eligible to take the NNAAP under the following criteria of:

  • Have completed an equivalent 100 class hours from a program in another state, with that program also having a minimum of 20 hours of clinical learning.
  • Have completed a minimum of 100 hours of state-approved classes in South Carolina within the last 24 months of taking the NNAAP.
  • Be a registered LPN, RN, or be a student nurse.

The South Carolina Nursing Assistant Test is administered by Credentia and is the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination. The test is consists of two sections – written and skills.
