Virginia CNA License Lookup & Verification

As a Virginia certified nursing assistant (CNA), you are required to maintain an active and up-to-date license. The Virginia Department of Health Professions oversees the licensure process for CNAs in the state, and provides an online license lookup tool through the Virginia Nurse Aide Registry that allows the public to verify the status of a CNA’s license.

Whether you are in need of verifying the status of a CNA’s license for employment purposes, or are simply curious about the status of your own license, the process is simple and can be completed entirely online.

How to verify a Virginia CNA license number

The following are instructions on how to verify a CNA license in Virginia using the online license lookup tool:

  • Visit the Virginia Nurse Aide Registry website’s license lookup page.
  • In the License Verification section enter the CNA license number in the “License Number” field. Alternatively, search using the last four digits of a social security number as well as the individual’s last name.
  • Click the Search button.
  • Refer to the “Expire Date” and “Additional Public Information” fields, or click on the name for additional information about the license status.

The tool only allows users to verify one license at a time. If you wish to verify licenses in bulk, you will want to subscribe to the Virginia DHP Health Professional Data Services.
